This Sunday we welcome
two newly-named monsignors of our Archdiocese to Immaculate Conception
Church for the June celebration of our 150th Jubilee Year! Monsignor
Charles McGlinn, a native son of Immaculate Conception Parish, will
be with us to preside and preach at our 10:30a.m. Mass. Currently the
pastor of Cure of Ars Parish in Leawood, KS, Msgr. McGlinn is also
the Vicar General of the Archdiocese. We also welcome Monsignor Michael
Mullen, current pastor of St. Patrick's Parish in Kansas City, KS.
Msgr. Mullen was the Associate Pastor at Immaculate Conception under
Msgr. Alexander Harvey from August 1962 to September 1964. He was our
parish priest at the time of the dedication of the present church on
May 31, 1964.
Msgr. Mullen visited us this past December 30, as we commemorated the
burning of the Old Cathedral with a PowerPoint slide show of the Old
Cathedral and its destruction. Msgr. McGlinn was at our January Jubilee
event as part of the Vocation Panel of Parish Vocations, addressing
our 4th-12th grade students from Xavier Elementary and Immaculata High
School.
Following the 10:30a.m. Eucharist with Msgr. Charles McGlinn, are all
invited to join us for a parish "picnic luncheon" in Miege Hall immediately
after the Mass. Then at 1:00p.m., we encourage those at the lunch and
those who attended other Masses during the weekend, to join us in the
church for a presentation by Msgr. Michael Mullen. Msgr. Mullen will
share with us the ideas of Msgr. Alexander Harvey in the construction
of our present and the Vatican II style of its design. The transition
from the grand Romanesque Old Cathedral to the simplicity of our present
modern church was a major one! Come hear about the decisions made during
the time of the Second Vatican Council, which led to its construction!
Also, the placement of a parish time capsule originally planned for
this Sunday has been delayed until after the completion of the Jubilee
Year in August.
Our 150th Jubilee Rosaries will be on sale at all our Masses at St.
Joseph and Immaculate Conception this weekend. These commemorative
rosaries will make a great Father's Day present! We will also be selling
raffle tickets this weekend for our upcoming St. Joseph Parish Germanfest
to be held on June 25.
Next weekend, June 18-19, we will be having elections for three Parish
Council members to replace outgoing members, Craig Chmidling, Ann Christoffersen,
and Georgia Scanlon. The six parishioners nominated on May 29 and agreeing
to stand for election are: Theresa Holt, Patty Oatney, Sue Peterson,
Sharon Scanlon, Jane Stucker, and Mary Wheaton. Please read the brief
biographies of our candidates in the flyer in today's bulletin (see
our online news section), and
vote for three candidates of your choice next weekend. Any registered
parishioner who has been confirmed is eligible to vote.
God Bless you always!
