| Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, | |
| This
Sunday evening at 6:00p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, we will
be hosting a benefit concert, "An Evening of Story and Song," with
local recording artist and composer, Tom Jacobs. There is no charge
for the concert, but a free-will offering will be taken up to help
support the medical relief fund of Mark Simanowitz and to support Timber
Creek House of Prayer founded by Tom Jacobs. Mark and Barbara Kowalewski Simanowitz are long-time St. Joseph parishioners. Mark has been recovering from a stroke and has made great strides forward, but the family medical bills are considerable. Please be generous. Tom Jacobs has shared his music and retreats in numerous parishes across the United States. Every December, he has an annual Advent concert at the Unity Village Church on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. Tom is not only a recording artist, but a retreat facilitator, story-teller, and former Benedictine monk. His is also a former religion instructor at Immaculata High School. His music is reflective, inspirational, and contemplative. I think you and your whole family will enjoy his unique blending of stories, slides, and songs. I also hope to hear Tom's personal rendition of our 150th Jubilee Hymn this Sunday evening! CDs of the Jubilee Hymn will be available for $5.00 after the concert. The painting of Immaculate Conception Church by artist Jan Kuschner, which is on the front of this week's bulletin, was commissioned by Robert Martin in honor of the parish's 150th Jubilee. The original will eventually be hung in the church lobby. A number of prints of the painting are still available in the church lobby and parish Office should you want a copy for your home. Another unique event taking place this Sunday at the St. Joseph Church parking lot is the "First City Knight Ride Bike Blessing." As a benefit for Catholic Relief Services, bikers will be registering at Kinzler Hall at 11:00a.m. this Sunday with a blessing to follow at Noon. The motorcyclists will bike to Winchester, Tonganoxie, and Lawrence, before returning to the Leavenworth Knights of Columbus Hall for a concluding meal. Many thanks to Larry and Agnes Meza for organizing this event! This Monday evening, October 10, at 7:00p.m. in Kinzler Hall, all those who helped to plan our St. Joseph Parish Bazaar on September 18 will be meeting to review the day. Our profits are holding in excess of $16,000.00! Many thanks for all who made the Bazaar such a great social and financial success! Joe and Helen Schwinn will be passing the baton of leadership to Kerry and Michele Brungardt as they make plans for Bazaar 2006! God bless you always! |
