The Year of St. Joseph

In his Apostolic Letter "Patris corde", which translates to "With a Father's Heart", Pope Francis proclaimed a "Year of Saint Joseph" from the December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021.  The proclamation recalls the declaration of Saint Joseph as the Patron of the Universal Church by Blessed Pope Pius IX, 150 years ago on December 8, 1870.  Catholics may be granted plenary indulgences through prayer, reflection, penance, and acts of charity and justice dedicated to St. Joseph.

Prayer to St. Joseph

(Added by Pope Francis in his Apostolic Letter)

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.

Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage,
and defend us from every evil.  Amen.
